Do you struggle to get your Harley Davidson into Neutral like I do? Then check this out as I try out a simple and inexpensive solution to hopefully solve the problem. Will it work? Watch and find out! Like, Share, Comment and Subscribe Thanks for your support Rick
1999 FXDX here’s how I do it : coming to a stop , clutch in at 15 mph , drop it all the way down to first gear at 10 mph and immediately apply light upward pressure on the shifter. Right at about 6 mph it will easily pop right in to neutral. This works 100% of the time.

I have a 2000 FXDX and this is how I do it as well. Those early twin cams are a bear to find N. I also just opened my outer primary cover and found that my chain tensioner was loose so that was probably a cause as well

On my M8 breakout, I've never had a problem with finding neutral. I have the clutch adjusted properly, which allows me to find neutral when stopped or before coming to a stop.
I leave my 2021 Harley Davidson in year first gear at a stoplight but I do have to park it sometime and that’s when I had problems find a neutral until I realized all I had to do rev the engine a little bit before I shifted it up and it went perfect. Be safe.
Thanks Christopher for watching and commenting. It is an amazing little gadget that makes a big difference in shift feel. Thanks for your continued support to the channel. Ride safe and enjoy 👊✌️👍

I'm definitely going to look into this. I thought my finding neutral at the end of my ride was because of my being a (58 year old) beginner. Not a design issue.

Thanks for watching and commenting. Any linkage that doesn't have a swivel on the bolt that goes into the front shift lever. I've used some from ebay or Amazon in the past. Just make sure they are length adjustable. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👍✌️👊
If I need to be in neutral I do like some of the others here and start working on it before I come to a stop. But every once in a while when I am already stopped getting into neutral is up and down, up and down, then it is annoying. So I ordered this and I hope it works as well as it did for you. This one bolts to the rear of the linkage and the one from Thrashin Supply bolts on the front, and it costs more. I guess they do they same thing, one isn't better than the other.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I am very pleased with the EZ SHIFT. I was shocked at the difference after installing the product. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. @keonef Yes...the weather lately here in the St Louis area has not been conducive for riding. I haven't been able to get out on one of the bikes for about 4 weeks now...ugh.
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I was really shocked at the difference in the feel of shifting. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍

Very true...but sometimes you need to get into neutral quick to adjust something. As a rule I stay in 1st at a stop but there are exceptions if the need arises. ✌️👊👍

For sure I’m going to get this. My 2021 CVO RG isn’t as easy to find neutral as my 2002 fatboy. I usually use my hand if I’m getting on my bike in the garage to move it out of first. I hope it’s as easy as that! From your test run it looks great. I think I’ll check on a new shift linkage soon because I have heard about the factory one failing at some point heck maybe do them both at the same time. I would like to find one with more style than the stock. I have the same color scheme as your CVO SG. Thanks Rick good upgrade👍🏼
I was very surprised at how EZ the bike shifted and went into neutral after putting the EZ Shift on the bike. Great idea to change out the linkage as well. It's definitely a failure point down the road. 👊✌️👍
This will fit on the M8 touring and softtail models. I have the link in the description to the product. Neat little mod! I will say that I haven't had to much trouble getting my 2020 UL into neutral, if I am, ive found that just giving the throttle a little blip then move into neutral works slick every time! Great video...thanks for sharing...stay safe out there!!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
Rick: great video. Just a comment - when working around the fins of a HD engine, wear some thin gloves. The fins are razor sharp! I have bloodied my fingers and knuckles too many times over the years. BTW I was in KC over the weekend; temps okay but rain and fog ugh! Merry Christmas!
I had that problem plus unreliable down shifting on my 2020 Softail Sport Glide after installing Chinesium forward control extensions. The kit came with an extended shift rod and heim joints. The kit supplied heim joints were utter garbage but at least had the same threads as the stock HD joints. I put the HD joints on the extended rod and the problem went away.

The bigger question to answer is...why didn't HD make the transmission lever an inch and a half longer at the factory. For that matter, why do they continue to put the flimsy shifter linkage rod joints on their bikes. Both of these items have been issues for quite some time. I've owned 4 Harleys in my lifetime and the genuine LACK of concern for ownership issues..at least until they're forced to initiate a recall, make it certain that I'll ever own another one. The kool-aid has worn off for sure.

Thanks for sharing that info and adding to the conversation. I have ridden a 2024 Road Glide and really don't remember how it was getting it into neutral. Thanks for your continued support. 👊
I had a muller easy clutch installed at a defunct Harley dealer who was forced out and they put it in and they adjusted it perfectly and could hit N every time .i had to take my 2022 tri glide in for its 5000 mile checkup to the dealer I bought my trike from and I don’t know what they did but I can’t find it anymore thank God my warranty is expiring this year so I won’t ever go back to that dealership ever again .
when i bought my 2012 fatboy 103b, neutral didnt happen. turn it off, and then put it in neutral. i cured that with a 3 point oil change. when i drained the transmission, the oil must have been 140. it also had a weird texture to it, plus weird bluish, purple flakes in it. this improve neutral 80%, but changing the transmission oil again a few months later completely fixed it.
@@HDVIBE buying someone elses bike, you never know what they did to it. i found out later this bike was a repo. when people know a repo is coming, they do weird things.
Thanks for sharing your tip. It is also amazing how easy the bike now shifts as well. When compared to my other to touring harleys I own without the EZ Shift installed there is no comparison. The angle of that shift lever for your foot looks really far forward like your shift linkage is to long. Weird angles like that will make shifting harder too. Try a shorter shift linkage bringing the shifter lever closest to the motor Up front more upright instead of so far forward and watch the difference

I have a 2021 SportGlide with a 107 M8 and yes I have problems finding neutral..it's a shame you pay big money for a Harley and they let this problem slip by and sell it anyway.

I had planned to do so, however I live in the Midwest. The day I put the video together it was 26 degrees and snow flurries were flying...so I wasn't going to risk it for a video. However, comparing the shifts on this bike now to my other 2 bikes ( street glide st and street glide cvo ) without ez shift installed is night and day . The other 2 bikes are much harder to shift as compared to the Road Glide. If you are already a subscriber to the channel.. thank you. When you have to buy an aftermarket part to fix something that should work perfectly from the factory then there's a problem with the manufacturer. Never shift into neutral at a stop sign or intersection. There could become a situation where you need to get out quickly, and your throttle might be your only recourse. If you have to pull in the clutch and shift into gear it might be all over for you. Always be prepared. Harley Davidson is having a lot of problems. You don't see the Fab 4 or Indian struggling with incompetence.

@@HDVIBE Yes I have been subscribed thanks - Although had not seen a vid of yours in some time. Last one in fact was with your group as I recall. For years my dearest wife road as my Pillion. Two years ago She trained on a Honda Rebel 250CC for MSF, and then we got her an 81 CB 750 , which I restored and training her more on. The Neutral light on my 79 is out and is the least of my issues. I have no indication of what gear im in for example when at full stop. I'll rock it just a little to shift into first, or if a long light then neutral. My wife expected that it would be ore like a electrical switch - now she knows to rock it. Originally, when training on the 250CC, she sat there asking if it needed more gas -

There’s an even simpler and cheaper trick. Check the oil in your primary. You probably either got too little or too much once you get the oil just right you won’t have a problem finding neutral. Learn how to do your own oil change that fix my problem permanently.
Thanks for sharing that tip. I only use fluid specific for the transmission. So that is definitely better than using same oil in all three holes. The Street Glide CVO is the worse of the 3 bikes. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍
Toward the beginning of the video I explain what the EZ Shift does. Essentially it creates a better leverage angle creating easier shifting and finding nuetral. I'd suggest you go to the link in the description which will take you to the Kraus product details in order to get all the specifics. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. Will do. Thank you. My issue is not finding neutral rather kicking down to 1st gear....2nd sometimes too from 5th or 6th. Basically from highways speeds to red light...aka 1st gear. M8 hydraulic 2019 limited 117. I've changed fluids ensured proper levels, flushed hydraulic chutch cable too. Still happens....I have to bang it down and throw clutch in and out while kicking her down. Finally goes to 1st but it's not normal. I wonder if your invention cures that too...31000 miles. I forgot to add that in. Edit
@jimbo4260 Now that is an interesting situation. I've not experienced what you describe on any of the 5 Harley touring bikes I've owned...3 of which I currently own. I can do an emergency stop from whatever gear and get into 1st pretty quickly without releasing the clutch in between gears. I'm not sure if the EZ Shift will help with what you are experiencing. Are you using true transmission and primary lubricant or just the same oil you are using in the transmission? I used specified primary and transmission fluids and that was an improvement.
@HDVIBE factory said syn 3 in all 3 holes. I'm wondering if it's the push rod that goes from right side clutch actuator to the left side actual clutch. Or maybe worn clutch but only has about 32k. Very odd issue as you said. I'm still going to get your product but also going to have long chat with my dealer of 30 years.
[10 seconds into video] No, I don't. Just give a tiny bit of throttle while engaging the shifter. It slides into (or out of) gear smooth as silk. 🤷♂️ No aftermarket product needed. This video is a 10-minute ad. 🤦♂️

I own 3 Harley Davidson Touring motorcycles and I'm a certified motorcycle instructor under the MSF curriculum and by Harley Davidson. It's not impossible to find nuetral, but this little part makes shifting much smoother and easier to catch neutral. This channel is about sharing information and this particular video seems to be helping many as it has been viewed by over 27,000 people in a few days. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. ✌️

@ I speak from experience, I have owned 6 Harleys. Between 2016 and 2021 I purchased new, EVO Sportster 5 speed, Dyna twin cam 110, Street Glide M-8 107, Fat Bob soft tail 114 M-8, and a Pan America Rev Max 1250. The last bike was a 2020 Livewire, no gears or clutch. None of the trannies were smooth, going from N to 1st is a clunk. Finding neutral on a “premium” bike should be easy, simple, and quick. The Pan required letting the clutch out just enough to engage the gears, and then it would drop in. I now have a’24 Kawasaki Z 900 rs and it has a feature that when stopped and shifted from 1st to N, it won’t let you go up into 2 nd. I think you were featuring a part that makes finding N easier. Why do you have to install an aftermarket part to make a premium product better? Why do so many Road Glide owners upgrade the rear shocks?
@noidreculse8906 Thanks for adding to the conversation. I've done over 40 changes/upgrades on my 2021 Road Glide...did I have to do them...no. However, i enjoy making the bike my own and if I can tweak it just a bit to make it better for me...then I do an upgrade. I currently own 3 Harley touring motorcycles including a 2021 CVO Street Glide. All three have varying upgrades with the CVO having the fewest. 👍

Excellent video, we'll explained. I just recently fixed all my HD issues, bought a Honda VTX 1800.

I leave my 2021 Harley Davidson in year first gear at a stoplight but I do have to park it sometime and that’s when I had problems find a neutral until I realized all I had to do rev the engine a little bit before I shifted it up and it went perfect. Be safe.

I'm definitely going to look into this. I thought my finding neutral at the end of my ride was because of my being a (58 year old) beginner. Not a design issue.

You mentioned swapping out the stock shift lever (linkage) what part are you recommending for an upgrade to the linkage?
Thanks for watching and commenting. Any linkage that doesn't have a swivel on the bolt that goes into the front shift lever. I've used some from ebay or Amazon in the past. Just make sure they are length adjustable. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so.
Putting your bike in neutral at a stop light is suicide.
Very true...but sometimes you need to get into neutral quick to adjust something. As a rule I stay in 1st at a stop but there are exceptions if the need arises. ✌️👊👍
Why is it suicide?
Leaving it in gear at a stop allows you to quickly get going if a car behind doesn't stop and is running up on you from behind.

I usually use my hand if I’m getting on my bike in the garage to move it out of first. I hope it’s as easy as that! From your test run it looks great.
I think I’ll check on a new shift linkage soon because I have heard about the factory one failing at some point heck maybe do them
both at the same time. I would like to find one with more style than the stock. I have the same color scheme as your CVO SG.

Rick: great video. Just a comment - when working around the fins of a HD engine, wear some thin gloves. The fins are razor sharp! I have bloodied my fingers and knuckles too many times over the years.
BTW I was in KC over the weekend; temps okay but rain and fog ugh!

I had that problem plus unreliable down shifting on my 2020 Softail Sport Glide after installing Chinesium forward control extensions. The kit came with an extended shift rod and heim joints. The kool-aid has worn off for sure.

when i bought my 2012 fatboy 103b, neutral didnt happen. turn it off, and then put it in neutral.
i cured that with a 3 point oil change. when i drained the transmission, the oil must have been 140.
it also had a weird texture to it, plus weird bluish, purple flakes in it.
this improve neutral 80%, but changing the transmission oil again a few months later completely fixed it.

The angle of that shift lever for your foot looks really far forward like your shift linkage is to long. Weird angles like that will make shifting harder too. Try a shorter shift linkage bringing the shifter lever closest to the motor

The Neutral light on my 79 is out and is the least of my issues. I have no indication of what gear im in for example when at full stop. Will do.
Thanks for your time. Great product.
[10 seconds into video] No, I don't. Just give a tiny bit of throttle while engaging the shifter. It slides into (or out of) gear smooth as silk. 🤷♂️ No aftermarket product needed. This video is a 10-minute ad. 🤦♂️

Many viewers come to the channel to see or learn about products before they spend their hard earned dollars. Often by watching these videos they can do a project on their own saving shop labor or often I have discount codes to offer. In this case I was highlighting a product I purchased with my hard earned money money so the viewers can see how it installs and what it does. Or you can put redline in your transmission. Find neutral every time.
Thanks for sharing that tip. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👍
Why don't you just get a Honda goldwing automatic
Well Clyde I'm not a fan of Goldwings or automatic transmissions. I have 3 Harley touring bikes so I think I'll stick with the brand. Ride safe and merry Christmas ✌️
@HDVIBE then quit complaining
@clydeholiday5907 I don't see this as complaining just providing information for the over 21,000 people that have viewed this video and the over 2.1 million views of the channel. This channel is about sharing information not complaining. Are there improvements that can be made on these bikes...absolutely. Do you have to make the changes or upgrades...no. it's a choice not a need in most cases. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Why did you take my comment down?
I didn't take your comment down.
It's a reply to someone else's comment and it's still there.
looks like it will be trouble , learn to find neutral on your own
No trouble at all. Just makes shifting and finding just a bit easier. 👍
What about when the motor is running. That's the issue. Not when it's not running.
Where's that demo???
I planned to do that but the temperature was 25 degrees...so i opted not to show that. Thanks for your support. 👍
H-D hade over 100 years to build a good and smote gearbox?!

Buy a goldwing
Thanks for watching and commenting with your input on the topic. With 3 Harley Touring bikes in the garage I don't plan on making a brand change anytime soon. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. ✌️
No, not at all.

Solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
Well...I definitely have a challenge getting the bike in nuetral...the 2021 CVO is the worst. Shifting is definitely easier with the EZ Shift on my bike. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊👍✌️
Install a heel shifter. Problem solved.
Good suggestion. I actually have a heel shiter on my 2021 Street Glide CVO...but I don't use it. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👍
Or, just learn how to ride.
Too much work?
You probably shouldn't own a motorcycle.
Bullshit
Not sure what you are commenting on...The product works great and as I compare the Road Glide with the EZ Shift to my other 2 touring bikes without...it's a night a day difference. The Road Glide shifts much easier. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. ✌️
Buy a $25000 bike then have to buy this mickey mouse crap to make it right. 🧟

Buy an Indian
Thanks for adding your input...not sure I'll ever do as you suggested. Ride safe and enjoy. 👊
Just don’t buy a Harley.
Thanks for sharing your perspective. Ride safe and enjoy 👍
@ I get it. Ride safe 😎
@noidreculse8906 👍
